How does a dog get out of a fenced-in yard when both gates are closed and there are no noticeable gaps in the fence?

2nd-Nov-2005 11:18 pm - Morton Arboretum
It was a beautiful day here in Chicago-land and I had some free time. I decided to visit the 1,700 acre Morton Arboretum. Here’s just one of the pictures I took.

Today's blogs were posted at my TypePad site only. I just don't have the energy to get all the links set up here also. Sorry for the inconvience!

31st-Oct-2005 08:10 pm - Drip-Drop Halloween

If any Chicagoans missed the fact that today was Halloween, all they had to do was look out a window. It was raining! In case you missed it, we had a drought here in the Midwest this summer—a bad one. But, today being Halloween and with rain forecast for late evening, it of course started raining about 4:30—just as Trick-or-Treat rush-hour traffic got started.

Never fails. We’ve had crummy weather on Halloween for as long as I can remember. The day before and the day after will be lovely, but put a Chicago-area child into a Halloween costume and Mother Nature gets outright nasty.

Feel free to send your kids over; I’ve got candy to give away!

Well, as we say here a lot: wait till next year.

30th-Oct-2005 11:13 pm - Choo-Choo
I went to a Halloween party today and got to see the trains my friends set up in their backyard. Here are just a few of the pictures I took. (I’m thinking about getting an account at Flickr, then I could post more of the train pictures and other pictures I’ve taken. Anybody else try it?)

(Click on the images to enlarge.)

As the last picture shows, the night was not without some excitement. I’m not sure if you can tell from the pictures, but Snoopy and the gang survived the crash and decided against suing.

A great time was had by all!
29th-Oct-2005 11:59 pm - Changing the Clocks
In a few minutes I’ll start changing the clocks. You know the routine: Spring ahead, Fall back. (We’ll see if I get this right when I actually do it.)

Earlier this year, when we “sprang ahead” I was recovering from oral surgery. I was on a medication that had to be taken every 6 hours and that meant getting up once in the middle of the night. This medication had the added “benefit” that you couldn’t lie down for 30-minutes after taking it. So, not only did I have to get up, but I couldn’t go back to bed.

So last spring I sprang ahead after taking the medication. It was a good way to whittle away the 30 minutes in the middle of the night—too bad I also had to lose an hour of sleep just for changing the clocks.

This time, no medications during the night, so the clocks are changing before I go to bed and I’m gaining sleep time—sweet!
29th-Oct-2005 08:46 pm - E-mail Invasion
I’m still being bombarded by virus-infected emails. They weren’t able to fix the server last night with anti-virus software and now have to fix it manually. They didn’t say, but I’m assuming that means tonight.

Fortunately anti-virus software is still protecting my computer and my files, but this is really, really, really, really annoying! I’m not sending emails, because I don’t want to risk infecting anyone else. I have no idea if my real emails are getting through, because there’s so much traffic from the virus.

In other news, it was a beautiful day here in Chicago-land and Reggie and I got out to enjoy it. Tomorrow Halloween parties; don’t ask why.
28th-Oct-2005 10:42 pm - Honey, How Was Your Day?
All but one of the following happened to me today:

  • I got an unexpected, unexplained IRS refund

  • I received 100s of virus infected emails

  • I visited the bank to pay my property tax

  • I went downtown for Sox worshipping

Which of the above is NOT true?

27th-Oct-2005 03:07 pm - non-CHICAGO White Sox
Logo_32_cws_1The city of Chicago has announced that the celebration parade and ceremony for the World Series Champs will be tomorrow, Friday, not Monday as originally planned and scheduled. Is this because everyone is eager to celebrate and drool over the players? No, of course not.

The reason for the change:

“…because a lot of the players wanted to leave town.”

So much for the CHICAGO White Sox…the players are skipping town as fast as they can!
